Madoussou Sanogo General Chemistry Lab II Experiment 13 2/13/18 Thermodynamics and Colligative Properties: Determining the Better Deicer Title: Determining heat of solution for sodium chloride and calcium chloride. Objective: The objective of this experiment is to determine which compound, sodium chloride or calcium chloride would be the better deicer by focusing on heat of solution and freezing point of both compounds. Variables: The independent variable would be the time and the dependent variable would be the temperature. Hypothesis: I predict the heat of solution for sodium chloride would be +3.9 kJ/mol and the calcium chloride would be -80 kJ/mol. The change in temperature of the water should increase by 10°C for both compounds. The heat of the solution for sodium chloride is positive, thus making it endothermic while the heat of solution for calcium chloride is negative, therefore making it exothermic.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
