DEVIANT BEHAVIORS 2 Deviant Behaviors Donald Sterling is an 80 year old billionaire, attorney and businessman. Donald Sterling was the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. The Los Angeles Clippers is a professional basketball team. He owned them for 33 years from 1981 to 2014. V. Stiviano made the recording public as well as stated that Sterling was very rude to her about posting Instagram photos of herself with Magic Johnson. V. Stiviano also reported that Sterling told her not to associate with blacks in public or to bring them to his games (Fenno & Rainey, 2014). Sterling lost his team due to racial slurs that were on tape that he made about African Americans. The National Basketball Association decided to ban Donald Sterling from going to the Clippers games, he was compelled to sell the team and fined $2.5 million for his racist comments. Therefore it is obvious that the NBA does not approve of racism and that social controls worked against Sterling to keep ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers (Fenno & Rainey, 2014). Donald T. Sterling’s loss of ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers had much to do with social controls. From the beginning of Donald T. Sterling he used social controls to increase desirability of himself to the public. One of the first steps he took was changing his last name
