Poetry and Prose The poet Mina Loy says, "Poetry is prose bewitched." Think about this statement as it applies to these two pieces of writing; then use the space that follows to compare the two texts. Explain how the poem is "bewitched" in a way the prose piece isn't. Poems can be seen as “bewitched” because the poem expresses a strong passion or strong feeling towards a person, idea, or thought. The poem can be seen as bewitched because it shows a passion for the idea of woman playing hockey. The poem goes into great detail describing how woman play hockey. The way the poem goes into such detail allows the reader to feel the passion expressed in the poem which could be why poet Mina Loy said “Poetry is prose bewitched.” The prose form is also important too as it gives background information that can help us truly understand the poem. Without prose form we can feel the emotional side of the poem but we do not fully understand the context of the event. Both forms are important the prose form helps us to understand the main idea by giving us background information then the poem shows us the passionate side of the writing.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
