2Research Critiques and PICOT Statement Final Draft PICOT StatementCentral line infections are the most common infections in the hospital settings. Central line infections are known as CLABSIs, which means a central line infection that’s related to bloodstream infections. The infection has caused major problems because it delays the time patients must stay in the hospital. An unexpected infection and change of discharge plans can be very stressful for the family and patient financially. Qualitative research has been done by Scheck, Hefner, Robbins, Harrison and Garman and they talk about ways how infection can be prevented during patient hospital stay. (CLABSI (2015).BackgroundThe study is about ways to improve patient’s outcome if will be getting a central line. Central line had two different routes, either central venous catheter, or another route is peripheral line. The decision on inserting catheter varies; sometimes patients get central line inserted because patient doesn’t have good veins for peripheral IVs or the opposite, some central line used to certain medication that can’t be given through peripheral vein. New preventive measure must be taken into action while giving care to your patients with central line to prevent infections. Nursing and medical staff must be educated and trained to give proper care to the patient during their stay. The goal is to have less infection and later it will reflect on the nursing care provided for your patient. The study compares among the hospital that had a successful rate of eliminating the infections and what interventions were taken place to help decrease the infection rate and the unsuccessful rate of CLABSI in the hospital. The study compares both research and explains the interventions taken place.
3Research Critiques and PICOT Statement Final Draft Literature SearchCLABSIs is the main topic to be discussed about and how nurses deal with this every day.Nurses do the right thing by keeping up with education and applying the changes to prevent theinfection. The PICOT question keen following and utilization. Central line infections haveincreased in about 20% mortality and morbidity rates. And if the patient had to stay longer thetreatment fee can be anything from $28,000 to $35,000. CLABSI can be preventable if properhandwashing and implantations are followed. It has a major problem in most health care settings. There are many different strategies that are been used, the goal for most hospitals are to haveZero CLABSI. The set institutional goal is to curb CLABSI in most of the higher top hospitals.
