Paper 1 Question 5 The bright lights of a new life stared me in the eyes as I entered through those ominous glass doors, stumbling like a university student out of a bar on a Saturday morning. I fell to my knees, exposed due to the severe tearing of my trousers, and tears streamed down my cheeks, my face charred from the explosives dropped onto my town by the rebels. In my moment of self-pity, all I could do is hope for my family to lift me from my knees and comfort me; It was too late for that. I wished the same fate came to them as it came to me, simply a charred face. For them, it was worse, death. An agonising death. I picked myself up from my feet as I was guided into a triage room. Lining the hospital were soldiers similar to me: same height, same age, same build, same fear. All I could do as the nurse ordered me around was think. Think of the war, of the torment, of the lives destroyed as the seconds ticked by, and in my moment of deep thought, I became lost. Lost to the
