1 Professor Nadar Dae BUSN 115 April 6, 2018 Benefits and Challenges of Teamwork Throughout my professional and academic career, I have experienced a variety of team projects. I have been a team member and a team leader, short projects and long projects, and in the military and in the private sector. From my time spent navigating the stages of team development, I view team projects in a positive light. This is true for me because I am at heart an optimist. I like to search for the positive takeaways in every experience I encounter. Regardless of the possible negative aspects, such as; poor leadership / team members, lack of communication, or poor planning, I can learn from those moments and build what I call my “Management Playbook”. This book, whether mental or physical, contains a list of things that work and do not work, a situational reference on how to deal with certain situations, and guide to building team cohesion from examples of good and bad leaders. Using Bruce Tuckman’s, ‘ Five Stages of Team Development’ , Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning, as a foundational reference, I have navigated my fare share of challenges while working in a team setting. For this paper, I will identify three I have experienced and will offer recommendations on how to smooth out the situation.
