Medical Tourism is an incredibly competitive industry, but if FBN chooses to invest assets and resources in this multi-billion dollar industry we suggest penetrating the Cuban Market. We think Cuba would be the best market to enter to five major reasons: 1. A Bright Future: Cuba is an ideal candidate for the medical tourism industry. 2. A Great Supply of Talented Doctors : Cuba has the second highest number of certified medical officials per capita in world. 3. Proximity to Major Markets: Cuba is only 90 miles away from the US border, and it is very close to Central and South America. 4. Desirable Tourist Destination: Cuba is a highly desirable tourist destination that offers excellent eco- tourism and site seeing opportunities. II. Cubas Future in the Medical Tourism Market For over 60 years, the United States has held a strict embargo on the Cuban government -- making it impossible for US companies to penetrate the market. With a new Presidential administration and public opinion in favor of dismantling the embargo, trade and business in Cuba looks to open up in a big way soon.Proof. How is it about to change. Doesnt this raise concerns about their aptitude? Find research on the skill of medical doctors in a communist nation such as Cuba. How can we address this? Should we train? How? Who will do this. The government or private agencies or us? Footnote Taking advantage of this market early would be a significant revenue generator. With the inauguration of President Obama the US government has begun looking into steps that may reverse decades of embargo and trade restrictions. In a draft report released Feb. 23rd, Sen. Richard Lugar, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, concludes that Washington's unilateral embargo on the Caribbean nation has been ineffective and should be reevaluated (Fetini, 2009).
