October 22, 2007 Matt Doherty The Pleasures of Eating , Wendell Berry Response Paper #8 Sauce on Sunday It’s Sunday afternoon in my house. Football is on the television, and a pleasant aroma fills the house. The succulent delight cooking on the stove and permeating the house would be my favorite food – my mom’s sauce. For me, life doesn’t get much better than this. I love football, namely my hometown New York Jets and I love eating sauce over rigatoni pasta, complete with an assortment of meats which my mom purchased from the deli earlier in the day. But before I sit down on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy my favorite meal, a chain of events needs to happen that delivers the food from being a side of cow to a juicy meatball. Unfortunately, eating meat means that an animal has to be killed. Although I am personally not opposed to slaughterhouses and other meat processing plants, I realize that they are not a bright spot of the American food processing system. I am all for not killing
