French and Neoclassical Theatre   From 1600-1700 o Strove to recreate the ancient greek tradition. o In 1500 there was a great deal of fighting between Protestents and Catholics. o All of this fighting held back the development of the arts in France o In 1598 there was the Edict of Nantes which allowed everyone to worship as they  pleased .   Cardinal Richelieu  o was the power behind the throne o He ws able to stablize France polictally by 1620 o Able to get the french court stablized around the King o He wanted to bring glory to French thourgh the arts Academy Francese Started by Cardinal richelieu The judge of art for this time period Every piece of plays/poetry/ (all liturature) had to be Oked by  them. o He brought Tomaso Francini to France Francini brought all the Italian theatre technology with him.  Rake stage, scence shift, indoor theatre First italian theatre built in his palace o Richelieu makes France the center of the World for about 100 years because of
