Italian renaissance theatre Technology! o Italian renaissance started in the mid to late 12-1400 o Renaissance is French for rebirth o It is a time for rediscovering arts, and moving beyond fuedaism, o Fuedalism started to die in the renaissance o All the anctient greek and roman texts become rediscoverd in the mid 1300. o People start reading and there is a rebirth of knowledge. o Vitruvius' theatre: Note the seats, entries, and focal point to a proscenium stage. ON the stage, note the machinery and backstage areas. o The italians' are reading the poetics by aristotle. They are seeing for the first time of what theatre could be and should be for them. o They see the correct way to present drama (Correct for them anyway) o Aristotle said that drama was to teach to move and to delight in the Poetics o The italians really take that to heart o They take what Aristotle says and make rules about them called the Unities o Italians aren't know for their plays or dramas as much as their technology
