Ceremony: Religious, formal, or social occasion (eg. Weddings, Graduations) Ritual: The acting out of an established procedure (eg. Catholic Mass, Passover) Zeitgeist: Is a feeling about a time and place that you can not recreate.   Aristotle: Ancient greece is where Theatre started. He was the first person to break down a play,  say what makes it good, and what makes it up. Poetics:  Plot: Character: Theme: Language: Music (design): Spectacle:   What is Theatre? o Three things needed to have theatre Actors Audience  Conflict (most important)   o Where does Theatre come from? There is imitation of things we don't understand Entertainment Every culture has some kind of story telling aspect. Escapism ( we all want to escape from our reality) The needs in us create theatre   o Why do we like theatre? Theatre bonds us together.  We are all people who want to be accepted, entertainment can do that.
