Social competence is a concept that relies on processing social, emotional and intellectual skills and behaviors to succeed in today’s society. In relation to research, social competence is an important concept to consider if the subject has an issue with processing information or has a learning disability. Cultural competence focuses on the ability to positively interact with people from other cultures. Cultural competence is an important concept to follow when researchers recruit subjects for an experiment. Being open to diverse cultures when conducting a study will help researchers draw a conclusion that is unbiased. (O’Bren et al., 2006).
