Class notes : Fri, Feb 27 – The Self: Sex and Gender Friday 2/27 “Listen, or your tongue will keep you deaf.” - Native American Proverb Announcements None Agenda - Project Journal Three - o Identity marketing o The extended self - Exam One Review Project Journal Three - Construct a three-day “consumption biography” of a friend or relative - Make a list of and/or photograph his/her most prized possessions o What patterns do you see among the different brands purchased? o What do these items of information tell you about the person’s personality? - Due: Monday, March 9 th - 1 page double spaced – concentrate on the two major points - Biography and photographs can be attached - Consumption biography is basically a diary of brands they buy and use Using Fantasy - People that have wide gaps between their ideal and actual self are prime targets for fantasy appeals - Marketing strategies focused on fantasies allow us to extend the vision of ourselves - Commercials are shown again
