Many of you have been asking what you can anticipate on the first exam. Let me try to clarify certain aspects of that here. This “study guide” or whatever you wish to call it is by NO MEANS exhaustive, but will certainly point you in the right direction as you prepare for the exam Lecture Lecture 1: Anatomical terminology You need to know anatomical position You need to know the planes of symmetry and be able to identify them in context You need to know anatomical directions and be able to use them appropriately You need to know anatomical actions and be able to identify them in context Lecture 2: Cytology and Histology, and bones You should know the tenets of the cell theory You should know the general function of a cells organelles (to the degree we covered it in class) You should know the basic structure and function of connective tissue, nervous tissue and muscle tissue Know the function of the skeletal system Be able to identify the major types of bones (long, short, flat, irregular) Lecture 3: Bones, Joints and the vertebral column Be able to identify the bony features from handout 1 ** You may not see these exact illustrations on the exam, but my hope is that no matter what the picture is that you understand what the structure/feature is and can identify it. ** Know the two divisions of the skeletal system and what their components are Know and be able to identify (and explain) the three types of fibrous joints Know and be able to identify (and explain) the two types of cartilaginous joints
