Review for Exam 4 This handout is meant to be an overview of some of the organ systems we’ve covered. It is not intended to be complete, but to complement some of the other handouts, lecture notes and slides. Know blood flow through the heart Know the internal structures of the heart Know (in brief) what causes atrial and ventricular contractions (SA and AV nodes + Purkinge fibers) Know coronary circulation Know the structures of the bronchiole tree from trachea to alveolar sacs Know where gas exchange occurs Know what is meant by segmentation of the lungs and why this is clinically important Understand the mechanical aspects of breathing Know what muscles are involved Know how the ribs move during respiration Understand the function of the diaphragm Know the organs of the GI tract from mouth to Anus Know the accessory organs to the GI tract (liver, pancreas) Know the spleen and its functions (basic) There has been much confusion about the peritoneal linings.
