Chem 107-538 February 3, 2008 Experiment #1: Conservation Laws Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to discover whether Conservation Laws can be applied to Mass and Volume. Procedure The lab is to be done in two parts. In the first section, the exact volume delivered by a 5-mL pipette shall be determined by measuring out amounts of fluid, weighing them, and then using the density of that liquid to prove that the amount put in by the 5-mL pipette matches its description. The second component to this experiment is where it will be determined whether mass and volume are conserved when dealing with more than one liquid by comparing the results of section two

Summary After doing the measurements and the calculations, it is apparent that mass and volume are both conserved in all environments exampled within the experiment. Results and Calculations Discussion From this experiment it can be determined that mass is conserved when two liquids are mixed, and that volume is conserved in the same conditions. Both of these can be seen from the data in that from section one and two, the mixed liquids in two retrospectively are the weight and volume of their components, shown in one, put together. Thus, it can be shown that mass and volume are conserved quantities....
