Chemistry 107 February 23, 2008 Experiment 4 Interaction of Light with Matter: Beer’s Law Summary: First, in part A, a laser pointer and detector were connected to the computer. The computer was then fixed to the correct experiment screen (Experiment 4A). The laser was aligned to shine directly on the detector so that the illuminations could be read. The first illumination gathered was that of only the laser shining on the detector without any cuvettes in the middle. Next, one cuvette filled ¾ full with .03 M solution of CuSO 4 was added at a time (4 total) and the illumination for each of the times was recorded. The Curve fit option was then used to connect the illuminations attained. In part B, only one cuvette was between the laser and detector for this whole part of the experiment. First, one had to gather a .25 M solution of CuSO 4 . The test tubes were then used to create seven different concentrations of the solution. Then samples from each of the test tubes was poured into a cuvette and then placed in between the laser and detector where its
