(1pt) 3 major symptoms of schizophrenia include positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and cognitive deficits. Positive symptoms are those symptoms that were no exhibited by the patient before but appear at the onset of schizophrenia such as delusions and hallucinations. Negative symptoms are those that every individual experiences at some time but are much more intense and prolonged in schizophrenics such as decreased motivation and flat affect. Cognitive deficits are impairments in higher cognitive centers of the brain and include deficiencies in executive function and attention. 2. Name and describe the four subtypes of schizophrenia. (1pt) 4 subtypes include catatonic, hebephrenic, paranoid, and undifferentiated. 3. Individuals with schizophrenia excessively use nicotine. Why is it thought that the prevalence of smoking is high among individuals with schizophrenia? (1pt)
