Once a strange and removed presence in the world, Japan has risen from its former  shell to become one of the world most prominent developed countries. It took over 250 years  for Japan to realize the futility of self-isolation from foreign influences and build into the nation  that it is today. As Western ideas and institutions began to flood Japan, the Japanese way of  life would be pushed to its limits. Beginning with the return to imperial rule under Emperor
