Point Dume Elementary School Observation Date/Time: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 11am-1pm Place: Point Dume Elementary School; Classrooms, lunch area, and playground Subject: Female, 2 nd grade Observations: When I entered the classroom, the teacher was reading a story to the students who were sitting on the floor in the front of the room. She sat quietly as the teacher read the story to the class. As soon as the story was finished, the teacher gave instructions for an assignment and the subject went straight to her desk. She sat at her desk and began writing on her paper right away. During the assignment time, another girl told the teacher that she had a dentist appointment the next day, and the subject mentioned her dentist appointment in the next few weeks or so. When she was finished with the assignment, she raised her hand and asked the teacher what she should do next. The teacher sent her on an assignment outside the classroom. When she returned, she sat at her desk and placed her long, brown hair on her table and proceeded to rub her pencil over the ends of her hair. Then she pulled her hair into a ponytail with her hands and continues to play with it until the teacher comes over to answer her question. She then walks to her cubbie and places her homework in a folder to take home. The next activity was lunch time.
