Julianna Bloom Psyc 373/Dr. Folkerts January 16, 2009 A: I went to a private Catholic high school in south Orange County. While there were drugs going around, it was covered very well. There was definitely a certain group “known” to do drugs; it wasn’t necessarily considered a “cool” or “uncool” thing to do, it was just assumed to happen in certain groups. Mostly prescription drugs were taken and/ or sold and alcohol consumption was common and marijuana was definitely in the mix as well. My freshman year of high school a very large group of students were caught selling and taking drugs and therefore expelled from school. This impacted how covert doing drugs became. While the students that got caught were on campus, more students learned better to keep those activities off campus. I think that marijuana use has become so much more common over time that it is seen as a lesser offense than doing other “harder” drugs.
