Julianna Bloom, Verika Dildy, Jennifer Singleton, and Jade Tibbals Prejudice in the Media Social Psyc 333 Critical Evaluation and Integration Common Themes The media is a very popular means of relaying information to the public. Racial discrimination is common within the media even if it is subtle. Within twelve articles that were evaluated, many common themes were found intertwined within racial issues. The media reinforces all kinds of stereotypes to the public. Many minority groups are negatively depicted by the media through their specific story angles and use of language. Their descriptions are often exaggerated according to predetermined biases. All of these biases lead to the development of stereotypes, sometimes stemming from ignorance and prejudices (Thornicroft, Rose, et al., 2007). Preconceptions also play a role in the depiction of other ethnic minority groups in the media. The way the media portrays other groups directly influences how much information the public receives,
