The most powerful and influential image I saw in the text was Magdalena Abakanowicz's "Backs." The purpose of the piece of work is to remember the horror of the Nazi's in World War II. The artists mother was mutilated by the Nazi's and wanted to create a piece of art that shared the dehumanization she witnessed during WWII. The fact that the forms in the artwork are hollowed out to leave a human shell is very symbolic and makes me think of how the 70 million people that were killed not only were hurt physically but also emotionally. Instead of reading about the devastation, this piece of art helped me visualize the extent of that particular event in history....
