Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to identify the 5 unknown solutions by comparing the chemical results to the possible results. Procedure: 1. Get 5 unknowns and write down the pH of them 2. for each unknown add 5 drops into each of the 8 test tubes 3. add 10 drops of a test solution into one test tube, 10 drops of another test solution into another test tube, until all 8 test solutions have been completed 4. record result 5. empty content into waste bottle 6. repeat with the other 4 unknowns Results and Calculations: Unknown # 1 5 15 3 11 Color Clear Clear Light blue Light blue Clear pH <2 >12 ~7 ~7 ~7 Odor None None None None None KOH NR NR Opaque, with a blue precipitate Blue Precipitate, Opaque NR AgNO 3 White precipitate Milky solution White precipitate with a milky liquid NR NR BaCl 2 NR NR NR NR Milky solution NaCl NR NR NR NR NR NH 3 NR NR Turquoise with a yellowish tint at the bottom Periwinkle, darker blue, more opaque NR
