African Story Telling 9/23/08 Reading Notes Liongo Summary- Liongo had great streangth and was a very great man in the city of shanga. He oppressed the people until one day they bound him up and threw him in prison for a couple of days. They were in trouble after that and still wanted to kill him so they tied him up. He sang songs while he was tied up for months. A. Liongo sang songs that only his mother and slave could understand the meaning of. His songs came from his deep grief of being tied up. o Slave girl came with food soldiors ate food she gave scraps to liongo o Sent slave girl to tell his mother a message o Mother baked fine cakes and bran cakes like liongo said soldiors steale fine cakes and eat just like they did the slaves food. But the bran cake with the files is brought to liongo. People wanted liongo to be killed he said they should be killed Ordered all the people to assemble before thay kill him, he asks fo horn and cymbals and a gong He distracted the people with his music while he escaped. And killed the people.
