By 1982 average age was 72 All grew up under Stalin’s leadership o Andropov only lasted a couple years, Chernekov was just a bureaucrat and only lived a few months Showed that the Soviet leadership didn’t want broad changes These men didn’t really have a larger world view and didn’t know how to bring about changes o People didn’t want anymore instability- they had enough of that with Stalin Khrushchev made them insecure in their leadership They saw him as too spontaneous and volatile o Harrison Salisbury Arms, space, etc. o
