Leon Eggleston French 2710 Essay 2 Question 2 The cathedral in Chartres was a beautiful building that was known for its stained-glass windows and sculptures built on the church. As we learned about Chartres, the cathedral attracted pilgrims for multiple reasons. The cathedral was split in half and one side represented the Old Testament and the other side represented the New Testament. On the inside was a relic that was attracting pilgrims from everywhere and that was the Tunic. The Tunic was believed to be worn by the Virgin Mary when she gave birth to Jesus. The relic brought even popularity to the cathedral and was the sight for pilgrims. With that being said, the cathedral was also known for its relationship to the Bible. The stained-glass windows are told be telling the whole Christian story. When it comes to the actual structure of the building everything loos the same except for the two bell towers. The two bell towers are built in two different eras. The north tower was built in the Gothic style and the south tower was built in the Romanesque style. The north tower was
