Anthropology Week 13 Joshua Smith The first reading of this week was really interesting as it talks about political structure. It is very hard to believe that societies actually functioned without leaders. That really shows that human’s by nature are good and are capable of living their own lives without someone telling them how to live it. The second thing I found really interesting is how it is ungenerous to say thank you, because it implies you care about portions given and taken. This is how it works with the Bushmen, an anthropologist bought them a huge ox as a gift. But they tell him its worthless because they don’t like people being prideful. Often times there are leaders in the region but they have no power, they lead through example. This fits perfectly in the society of prehistoric hunting and collecting bands that practice a form of communism. The leaders of these societies were ranked by how much they gave, they actually got less then the others in society. Eventually as he grew more
