INTRODUCTION Counters and Time Delays are important techniques , they are commonly  used in applications such as traffic signals , digital clocks , process control ,  and serial data transfer . Counters are used primarily to keep track of events . Time Delays are important in setting up reasonably accurate timing between  two events .  The process of designing counters and Time Delays in software is far more  flexible and less time consuming than the design process using hardware. The purpose of this experiment is to explore several techniques to set up  time delays , and design of counters with time delays in software. OBJECTIVES  To show how to set up time delays , using one register pair , and a  loop-within- a loop technique . Calculate the time delay in a given loop . Design an up / down counter for a given delay. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED The MIDICOM microcomputer training system .
