CHEM 6BL MS Excel Graphing Guide Page 1 of 8 CHEM 6BL MS Excel Graphing Guide Experiment #2 (example: Titration Curve in Part V – Calculation #4) Setting Up the Graph: 1. Enter the data into the Excel spreadsheet - you should have two columns - Volume of NaOH Titrant Added (x-axis), and pH from pH meter (y-axis). Select all of the (numerical) data with the cursor, and click on the 'Chart Wizard' button ( ). 2. Choose 'XY Scatter' (best with 'curvy' connector-lines ) as shown below: Important: Do NOT choose 'Line' graph – which will give you the incorrect graph type! Click on 'Next >' twice, enter the "Chart Title" and the "Value (X) Axis" & "Value (Y) Axis" labels, and click on the 'Legend' tab - so you can click on the "Show legend" button to turn the Legend OFF (you don't need a legend for a graph like this!). 3. Click on 'Next >', and then 'Finish'. (Note: you will probably want to click on "As new sheet:" before clicking on 'Finish')

You can do a couple of things to "beautify" this graph: Double-click in the gray area of the graph - in the dialogue box that appears click "None" under "Area". (This gets rid of the gray background in your graph) Click on the y -axis - in the dialogue box that appears click the "Scale" tab, and maybe change the "Minimum" from 0 to 4 . 2. NO trendline (or y = m x + b equation) for this graph! 3. Your graph should look something like this: 4. When you print this graph out, make sure you set the printing options to "Landscape". 5.
