HIS 204 Discuss the various plans that were proposed to return the South to the Union. Do you think that Reconstruction was a success? Why or why not? The various plans were proposed the time after the Civil war and it was called Reconstruction. At first, President Abraham Lincoln announced a plan for Reconstruction to rebuild the South and bring states back into the Union. Under Lincoln’s presidency, southerners who took an oath that supported the union would be pardoned. The terms of the Reconstruction plan would allow the confederate states to form governments and constitutions as long as 10 percent of their votes supported the union the presidential election during the tenure of Lincoln would be the basis of this idea. Also the new states constitutions could not establish the idea of having slavery almost all northerners thought that Lincoln’s plan could be more severe because of the differing views they shared among their belief that the southerners were not punished to the extent of their actions. The day the civil war ended in the month of April in 1865 Lincoln was assassinated and
