HIS 204 Identify four of the reasons for the development of the Cold War 1. Capitalism against Communism The primary reason of the Cold War was the difference of two ideologies between the United States and USSR because of the opposite policies. A capitalist economic system is based on the recognition of individual rights , including property rights, in which all property is privately owned. Conversely, a communist economy is controlled by the government and based on based on common ownership of the means of production . Their characteristics are totally different and they have been rival systems. As a result, these ideologies caused for the development of the Cold War. 2. Security for the USSR USSR would be protecting from any future attack or aggression in order to reduce many Russian casualties along the western border. Stalin decided to surround Russia with a buffer of "friendly" countries which later came to be known as the Iron Curtain. 3. The West's Fear of the Spread of Communism
