Spring 2009
Final Review Guide
The final exam is cumulative, that is, all the materials which have been covered in class
throughout the semester will be tested on final.
We have covered chapters 1 to section 1 of 5 before the second prelim. After the second
prelim, we have covered chapters 6 to 10, and section 2 of chapter 5.
In the final, there will be 10 problems and 15 multiple choice questions.
Out of the 10
problems, at least 6 problems will be from the materials which have been covered
after
the second prelim, and at most 4 problems will be from the materials that have been
covered in the first and the second prelim. The multiple choice questions may be from
any part of the materials covered throughout the semester, at any proportion.
Look at the final sample questions, problem sets, and the problems we solved in class to
see what kind of questions may appear on the final.
To prepare for the prelim, you should use the lecture notes as a guide for reading the
textbook. Topics in the textbook that were not
covered in the lecture notes will not
be
tested in the prelim.
The following is a list of the materials that we have covered throughout the semester.
We have learned many definitions throughout the semester. I will never ask you to write
down the definitions directly, but you will need to know the definitions in order to solve
the problems and to answer the multiple choice questions.
