Jazzmin Carson September 29, 2017 Play Analysis Gem of the Ocean Ch. 1 1. My gut response to the play was outstanding. I believe I was initially open to it because I adore August Wilson’s work so much. The characters that seemed least interesting to me would have to be Solly Two Kings and Caesar. While reading the play, they seemed to be the most controversial. The characters who seemed most interesting to me would have to be Aunt Ester and Citizen. An interesting part of the play would be when Caesar is explaining why he does what he does now to his own people and how his mindset has changed over time through his life. The parts that sort of bored me was when Aunt Ester takes Citizen to the City of Bones, I believe this boredom steamed from confusion in general of what was taking place. 2. The story of play “ Gem of The Ocean” is about an old woman named Aunt Ester who opens her house up to people in need and “cleans their souls”.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
