Anmol Azhar Professor Justin Evans PHIL 253-007 February 20, 2018 Tawba, Tawakkul, and the belief in Akhirah Religion plays a meaningful role in most people’s lives because it represents the worship of God and portrays a set of ethical values that reflect what people believe in. There are many types of religions in the world such as Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism. All of these major world religions are very different but have one thing in common, faith in God(s). Religion has a significant impact on ethical values because the morals you inherit, reflect off of what faith you believe in. Islam is one of the many religions that portrays the relationship between the importance of religion and ethics. For a Muslim (a follower of Islam), Islam is the way of life. Muslims follow the way of life by studying and understanding the Quran (sacred text of Islam). There are specific Ayah’s (verses) in the Quran that help Muslims perceive what Allah (God) is commanding upon them. Amongst the six thousand, two hundred and thirty-six Ayah’s in the Quran, I have chosen three particular sections of verses from Surah (chapter) Al-Rum (The Byzantines) that demonstrate the connection between religion and ethics in a Muslim’s life and the hereafter: repentance, trust in Allah’s plan, and the belief in afterlife. Tawba (to regret) in Islam is the act of repenting for one’s misdeeds and having a strong purpose to stop committing those sins for the sake of Allah. The Quran repeatedly emphasizes the importance of Tawba because it plays a significant role in a Muslim’s life. There is a verse in the Quran, from Surah Al-Rum that states, “ Do they not reflect upon their souls? God did not create the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is between them, save in truth and for a term appointed. Yet truly many among mankind believe not in the meeting with their Lord (verse 8).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
