Sam Havens Explain and Engage Outline I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: I will start off with a question. B. Relevance to Audience: My topic is about college students mental health and as the audience is college students it directly relates to them. C. Thesis Statement: Well-being and mental health directly relates to our success as college students, and there is a lack of help or awareness of this fact on campuses, luckily a few schools are starting to change this problem. D. Preview of Main Points: A problem affecting all of us as college students is mental health, and colleges are having trouble keeping up with this issue that can lead to low success, and even suicide in the most extreme cases; luckily, a few schools are initiating change that all colleges will one day hopefully follow. E. Transition: I will transition with a phrase to segway into my next point. II. Main Point Summary Statement: Mental health among college students is getting worse and worse, and campuses are struggling to keep up and help effectively. A. Sub Point: Well being, specifically mental health, among college students on campuses are very low. 1. One in four college students have a diagnosable mental illness and 50 percent have become so anxious that they struggle in school (Dayan Gomez, 03/08/2018) 2. The number of students seeking mental health services increase 100 percent over the past decade. (Andre Mouchard , 02/06/2018 ) B.
