Michelle Maryakhin MGT 2530 February 4, 2018 Writing Assignment #1- Tall Poppy Syndrome While reading this case incident, I immediately thought of a time where I worked at a marketing consulting firm as an intern and observed this very phenomenon. I came into this firm as an intern with three others training with me. All three of us had the same mentor, teaching us the skills for the job. Our mentor was at this firm for over a year and seemed very arrogant and lazy. He constantly bragged about his (low) achievements and told us it would take years to perform at his level. One of my fellow interns, while very reserved and quiet, seemed to have a knack for this job and after three weeks on the job outperformed our mentor. Our manager recognized his achievements in front of everyone and everyone seemed very proud of him except for our mentor. During meetings our mentor seemed to always make rude side comments to this intern and was never respectful when speaking to him. We had several employee outings, which the intern never was able to come to. During these outings our
