Hyperhidrosis is a real and serious disease. Okay, maybe not serious because the realm of it’s fatality only reaches as far as my social life, but it has impacted multiple aspects of my daily life for as long as I can remember. My case of hyperhidrosis is simply excess sweating of the palms of my hands and soles of my feet that is not related to temperature or exercise, so even as I am writing this, I have to take frequent breaks to dry my hands on my t-shirt. This seemingly small and fairly shallow disease has shaped me into the person I am today and will continue to uniquely impact every aspect of my life. “Circle up and join hands so we can play a game” is usually every elementary schooler’s favorite phrase to hear, but for me it meant panic and denial that I was the source of the uncomfortable moistness between me and the unexpecting victims.
