CAS-100CL08 Assignment Part IIn this essay we will be analyzing two speeches the first was recited by Abraham Lincoln “Second Inaugural Address” recited on March 4th,1865. We must first understand who the speaker is, we know him as honest Abe, a man who insisted on telling the truth and obeying the laws of the land. At the time ofhis speech the end of the civil war is approaching, the audience was expecting him to address this and reaffirm the coming victory. President Lincoln did the opposite, instead of claiming glory and shaming those in the southern portion ofthe country he stated that war was inevitable and that he now wanted both sides to be part of the Union and come together and live in harmony. He tells his audience to be people of God and live like he would in this situation, with forgiveness. He insisted to put aside resentment and vengeance and highlighted that it was inevitable and that they should seek guidance from God and seek equality. In Barrack Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” we see a similar feel to his speech. He starts out his speech by reminding the audience of the efforts of the founding fathers. He states that they themselves in the Constitution created all men equal. Unlike Abraham Lincoln he does take a moment and shame slavery,shame the acts of generations before ours. He takes a moment to highlight the racial divide in the country between African Americans and Whites and states that he chose to run because of that divide. He felt it was the best time in history to be part of a long-needed change. He does shame the racial divide and
