Unit 1 and 2 Discussions UNIT 1I think prejudice is as Russell defines it. Prejudice is being unable to see someone else’s perspective. Prejudice is synonymous with close mindedness. When I think of prejudice, I think of when older generations are sometimes judgemental towards younger generations, calling themlazy and ignorant. If these older people were simply to think critically, put themselves in the younger people’s shoes, and address outside influences on young people’s situations, they may be able to understand and get along better. Russell thinks philosophy is different from science in how it affects people. Science, evenif it’s unknown to someone, helps them. Philosophy, however, can only indirectly affect others. He thinks philosophy is different from science, not better or worse, but each worthy in their own way. Common sense, to Russell, is something that can confine the mind.
