CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION . The course is an introductory survey of the fundamentals of financial management, financial analysis, The securities markets and personal financial planning. It provides a general understanding of the capital markets, financial intermediaries, sources and uses of capital, debt versus equity, fixed and floating rate financing, present value techniques, valuation, capital asset pricing, capital budgeting, terms and rights of stockholders and the corporate financial structure. II. DISCUSSION. This course is a survey course of introduction for all students in the business program but also for students who will be pursuing corporate finance, financial planning and personal money management as well as investments. We will set out to establish a firm foundation of financial practice and concepts, providing many real-life examples, from the US and the global business world, of the role that finance plays in a corporation. It will be a rigorous but fair course using mathematics frequently to illustrate valuation techniques and valuation of different financial instruments such as bonds, stocks and preferred stocks. We shall emphasize the practical aspects of finance and use financial calculators and financial software applications.
