Chantal M. Perez Video Summary: Going to Extremes Depression is a mood disorder that before puberty depression is more vulnerable to boys than girls. After puberty, the gender vulnerability of depression changes. Depression isn’t the kind of up’s and down’s we experience in life, it’s just the down’s. There are actual disorders physically and emotionally that don’t allow depressed patients just “snap out of it”. Bipolar disorder has different stages of manias. The first mania is a type of high of everything, a high arousal sexually, creativity with ideas, etc. Second stage of mania is when you start experiencing paranoia, hallucinations and the third that follows days or a week after is when your hallucinations are increasing and you’re not psychotic. During later stages of mania, the suicide risk greatly increasing. 50% of those who suffer from bipolar disorder attempt suicide and 30% succeed. We would think that those who suffer from Bipolar Depression would be a higher risk
