Megan McGreal SOC 315 Section 001 Barack Obama: A Family Man All of the presidential nominees claim to be pro family. Due to opposing ideological views, they all have different plans on how to create a better support system for families in the United States. Barack Obama, a liberal first term senator from Illinois stands with his Democratic party when it comes to family values. He focuses on supporting working and middle class families, creating universal healthcare, and strengthening the school systems. On other issues that effect families, Obama tends to be quite liberal, focusing on improving life for lower class Americans and decreasing the bifurcation that has been increasing dramatically during the last presidential dynasty. In issues like healthcare, same sex marriage, and the economy, Barack Obama keeps the working people of America in mind, and the dream of providing a stable family life for all our citizens never far from reach. Although it is only his second term in US Senate, Barack Obama has had a long history of helping American families in need. Before his political career, Obama went to Harvard Law School and was the first African American to become president of the Harvard Law review. Both before and after graduating from Harvard, Barack worked as a community organizer and a civil rights lawyer respectively, helping the impoverished people of Chicago’s Southside community. Barack Obama is one of the two Democratic Presidential nominees left in the race, the only candidate to oppose the Iraq War from the beginning, and a beacon of hope for struggling American families across the country. On his website, Barack Obama clearly lists the agenda that he has to improve conditions for American families. His first issue is to “Support Working Families.” He says he will do this by creating a “Making Work Pay” tax cut. This would provide aid to those working families
