Globe Paper AssignmentHRMN 367Globe Paper DimensionsCultural dimensions provide us with a way of understanding culture. It allows us to be aware of, measure and speak knowledgeably on the values and practices that drive human cultureto include what make us different (Globe Research, 2018). On the first assignment it was identified the scores found between two main countries, this paper will go into further depths on the dimensions developed by the GLOBE team of researchers by examining the dimensions and
the countries similarities and contrasts of their cultures. The chosen countries are Japan and Italy,I personally found these countries to be different yet similar in certain dimensions. Being able to understand the differences will help establish a positive experience whether is on the professionalor personal level. Performance OrientationThis dimension reflects the extend of how their community encourages and rewards highstandards, innovation and performance improvement (Globe research, 2018). According to theAsian Century Institute (2014) “Japan is a model of unusual social unity and consensus, whileItaly is associated with division and contestation” (par.28). Japanese society is often associatedwith unity and order, yet Italian society seem to deal with social unrest and defiance. Familyvalues are important for both cultures and this includes also the extended family. Uncertainty AvoidanceOn the uncertainty avoidance dimension, it’s focus on the extent to which ambiguous situations are felt as threatening – i.e., about the extent to which deliberate measures such as making and enforcing rules and procedures are taken to reduce ambiguity (Globe research, 2018). For example, Japan is very organized and follows the rules, laws in their society to a high level yet Italians tend to be more laid back on that approach, these clearly shows a drastic difference between both countries.
