Leukocytes-WBC’s are crucial to our defense to fight against diseases. They protect the bodyfrom damage by bacteria, viruses, parasites, toxins, and tumor cells. Platelets-are essential for the clotting process that occurs in plasma when blood vessels areruptured, or their lining is injured. Red Blood Cell (RBC) = Erythrocyte:Figure 17.7 on page 638 in the textbook reviews the life cycle of RBC’sRed blood cells (erythrocytes) are biconcave disks and this shape increases the surface area of the cell and maximizes diffusion of gases.
