An algorithm is a procedure or formula that is created to solve a reoccurring problem. 2) Who is George Polya? What is the name of the famous book he has authored? George Polya is a Hungarian mathematician born on Dec 13 th , 1887. He was a professor of mathematics at ETH Zurich form 1914 to 1940. He had many contributions to the math world including combinatorics, number theory, numerical analysis and probability theory. The famous book which he authored is called ‘How to solve it’ and has solve over a million copies. 3) According to Polya, what is the first thing to do when solving a problem? According to Polya, the first thing to do out of the 4 steps when solving a problem is understanding the problem itself and trying to figure out what are you trying to solve. In other words, this means taking note of the given data and conditions and figuring out how can this data help in solving the problem.
