Kimberly Troncoso Experiment 14 Pre Lab Introduction to Visible Spectrophotometry Hypothesis: I predict that the range of concentration of red dye 40 will fall between 0.1-1.0. The scientific method that will be used to determine this unknown concentration will be spectrophotometry. The law which governs the ability to relate the variables in this experiment is the Beer-Lambert Law. It states how the variables will relate through absorbance with concentration and absorbance and path length, leading to a consistently linear relationship between the variables. Absorbance and concentration are related because their relationship is simple and proportional making it easier to measure absorbance rather than transmittance. Transmittance is first measured with wavelength to then be related to absorbance and the concentration. Objective: The objective of this lab is to use Beer-Lambert’s Law to determine the concentration of the unknown Red Dye #40.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
