Page would have to be recycling. With everyone trying to go green the pressure has been turned up on manufactures to produce better products. Companies are facing pressure from their consumers to provide environmental friendly packaging. In response to these pressures companies are tasked to use alternative materials. You can see this in everyday life by just going to the grocery store. The days of paper bags are gone and shortly the plastic bags will be gone to. Consumers will have to buy and use reusable packaging bags. As far as the consumer goes he or she will switch brands if quality and price are the same but the environmentally impact will have to be less destructive. Though this is an advantage to the market because consumers willing to switch brands will be seen as new economic opportunities. Businesses can and must be responsible practitioners of environmentally friendly packaging for the reason of doing so will merely make them unselfish. According to the U.S. Post- Consumer & Post Commercial Recycling Collection Data, in 2006 166 million pounds of packing foam was sold domestically; of this only 32 million pounds (19.3%) was recycled. 1 Businesses need to approach packaging and environmental issues by showing pro earth strategies can be firmly pro business as well. Packaging is but one of the largest and most visible culprit as the land fields begin to spill over. Corporations have tried over the years to prove that they can be the good guys when they support environmentally friendly packaging and waste reduction. This dilemma doesn’t only fall upon companies it also falls upon the consumer. Currently the present day society is on a collision course with the planet’s life support system. About one third of the solid waste 3

Page packaging in the world equals to three hundred pounds per person each year. 2 Especially another concern that arises is the cost in energy and resources used to make packaging are even more alarming then you think. One answer to this growing problem would have to be unwrapping the packaging problems and give consumers, product designers, and policymakers the information they need to in order for mankind to take steps towards a more sustainable future. 3 There is so much more than meets the eye when it comes to packaging design.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
