A., Roziner, I., & Wrabel, S. L. (2016). Testing the Causal Links Between School Climate, School Violence, and School Academic Performance. Educational Researcher, 45 (3), 197-206. doi:10.3102/0013189x16644603 Purpose: To look at the links between climate, academic performance, and school violence. Design: cross-lagged panel autoregressive modeling design. Participants: middle and high school students across California Data Collection: California Healthy Kids Survey Data Analysis: School compositions were created with race, gender, student ages, etc. School climate was measured by finding the mean scores of the following topics: feeling a sense of belonging in the school, adult support within the school, and participation in school activities. Key Findings: This research produced evidence that if and when a school can show improvment t in academic performance, the school could be able to reduce violence and make the climate of the school better for everyone. Limitations: Recommendations for future research: How do adults within the school work to make the students feel welcome. What role does taking pride in one’s school play?

SHORT TITLE Application to research topic: This relates to my topic because it shows that when students feel like they belong to a school there is less violent behavior. I am trying to determine the causes and factors behind violent behavior and find out how to prevent and monitor school violence. Article 2 Reference: Berkowitz, R. (2013). Student and teacher responses to violence in school: The divergent views of bullies, victims, and bully-victims. School Psychology International, 35 (5), 485-503. doi:10.1177/0143034313511012 Purpose: This study looks at the way bullies, victims, teachers, and those students who are not involved, see violence and see responses to violence in the schools. Design: Qualitative, A national survey of school violence was conducted in 2005 Participants:4 th -11 th grade students participated in the survey, the sample taken from that was 7 th -11 th grade students Data Collection: An anonymous self-report survey was done. Students rated statements on teacher’s response to bullying and violence, student’s responses, attendance based on bullying, etc. The answers were collected and analyzed. Data Analysis: Correlations were tested and found between student reports of teacher and student responses to fighting at school, perceptions of safety, the atmosphere and climate of the school, etc. Key Findings: Overall students felt safe at their schools. There were some positive and negative perceptions of teacher and student response to violence. Findings also show that the majority of the school, around 72% were not involved in any type of violence or bullying at school
