Casey Rohwein Dr. Roehrle AP Lang B 23 February 2018 Merchant of Venice Act I Scenes I-III by Shakespeare Scene I Summary: Antonio is complaining to Salarino and Solanio about feeling sad, and not even knowing why. Salarino and Solanio both offer answers but Antonio feel neither of them are correct. After Salarino and Solanio leave Bassanio , Lorenzo, and Gratliano show up to talk to Antonio. Gratliano tells him that he is taking life too seriously and needs to lighten up. Lorenzo and Gratliano leave. Antonio questions Bassiano about a girl and Bassiano responds by saying before he spends money to a girl he wants to pay off all his debts. Antonio offers to let Bassiano use his credit so he can go see his girl, Portia. Scene II Summary: Nerissa tells Portia she should try to be happier and do more good in her life. Portia agrees but reminds Nerissa it is much easier said than done to do that. They begin to discuss different rulers around the Europe who are all suitors for Portia’s hand. Nerissa suggest Bassiano as a husband. Portia agrees he is a good man. A servant comes in to inform Portia a
